WHO WE ARE

MÀV is the modern project built around Moulin à Vent. The project is operated by Once Was Lost Stewardship Initiative, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

02

INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE

We may receive information you voluntarily provide through email-list forms, contact forms, project or expedition inquiries, archive contributions, donations, and private publishing tools. This may include your name, email address, organization, message, location, submitted files, and related correspondence.

03

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Our hosting and security providers may process basic technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as IP address, browser and device information, request times, referring pages, and security or server logs. Private administrator areas may use strictly necessary authentication or session technologies.

04

HOW WE USE INFORMATION

We use information to respond to requests, operate the project, deliver requested updates, review archive contributions, evaluate collaborations, maintain records, secure the website, and meet legal or operational obligations. We do not use submitted information for unrelated purposes.

05

EMAIL

If you join the MÀV email list, we use your address, signup source, optional interests, and campaign activity to manage requested project communications. Every marketing message includes an unsubscribe link. Our email delivery provider processes information needed to send messages and may report delivery, bounce, estimated-open, unsubscribe, and link-click events. We prioritize clicks and downstream aggregate activity because open reporting can be distorted by email privacy features. We do not connect subscriber records to individual browsing histories.

06

ARCHIVE CONTRIBUTIONS

Material submitted to the historical archive may include photographs, documents, captions, dates, provenance, rights information, and contact details. We use it to evaluate, verify, credit, preserve, and—when appropriate—publish the contribution. Public credit is handled in consultation with the contributor where practical.

07

PROJECT INQUIRIES

Information submitted about research, conservation, education, documentary, availability, support, or other project opportunities is used to assess and respond to that inquiry. Submission does not create a partnership, booking, employment, or other contractual relationship.

08

SHARING

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising. We may share limited information with service providers that host, secure, store, process payments, deliver email, or otherwise support requested website functions; with professional advisers; or when required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety.

09

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

The site links to or uses independent services including YouTube, Instagram, Zeffy, Resend, Cloudflare, and other project providers. Their own privacy practices govern information processed on their services. Opening an external link leaves the MÀV website.

10

RETENTION

We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, project and archive continuity, security, recordkeeping, dispute resolution, or legal obligations. Historical archive records may be retained for an extended period because preservation is part of the archive’s purpose.

11

SECURITY

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect project systems and information. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

12

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS

MÀV is based in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws from your home jurisdiction.

13

YOUR CHOICES

You may unsubscribe from email, decline to provide optional information, or contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information where applicable. Some information may be retained where required for legal, security, archival, or legitimate recordkeeping purposes.

14

CHILDREN

The website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us.

15

CHANGES

We may update this policy as the project and its systems develop. The effective date on this page identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected here before or when they take effect.

16

COOKIES + TRACKING

The public website does not use advertising pixels, behavioral tracking cookies, stored IP addresses, fingerprinting, or cross-site identifiers. It maintains limited aggregate first-party usage information—such as page views, referral source domains and interaction events—to understand and improve the website. A random anonymous session identifier is held in browser session storage until the tab or browser session closes and is recorded with these events solely to measure unique sessions; it does not identify a person or create a visitor profile. Limited first-party email campaign attribution may be retained for up to seven days to understand aggregate activity resulting from MÀV email communications. It is not used for targeted advertising or cross-site behavioral profiling. Strictly necessary session and authentication technologies may be used for private administrative access and requested functionality.
