A VESSEL FOR DISCOVERY

MOUNÀ VENT

THE REAWAKENING // ACT ONE

NOT SIMPLY
RESTORED.
REAWAKENED.

Moulin à Vent carried discovery into uncharted waters. Now she’s preparing to go further.

Moulin à Vent was Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s experimental catamaran and the full-scale prototype platform for the early Turbosail / Turbovoile program.

The vessel carried that alternative marine-propulsion experiment through Mediterranean trials and a 1983 transatlantic passage, creating a technical bridge toward Alcyone.

After her early voyages, Moulin à Vent passed through different hands, underwent changes, and gradually disappeared from the public eye.

Now, decades later, her story is being rediscovered—and a new research, conservation and storytelling expedition is taking shape.

Historical voyage records are reconstructed from documented locations, expedition accounts and archival sources. Passage geometry represents plausible routes rather than exact historical GPS tracks. The Calypso archive remains under development.

THE NEW EXPERIMENT // VIETNAM

THE EXPERIMENT
CONTINUES.

The first chapter of the new expedition is her reconstruction: bringing a historically significant experimental vessel back to sea while rethinking what an expedition platform can be today.

In Vietnam, MÀV is planned to undergo a comprehensive rebuild incorporating renewable energy, electric propulsion, lower-impact materials, reclaimed and recycled plastics, modern research capability and systems designed for extended independent operation.

More than just restoration.
It’s a continuation of innovation.

HISTORY WAS
THE PROTOTYPE.

THE FUTURE
IS THE PURPOSE.

Innovation and sustainability defined Moulin à Vent from the beginning. We aim to carry that same spirit into her reconstruction and future.

Through thoughtful design, emerging technologies, renewable energy, and more sustainable materials and systems throughout the vessel.

CONSERVATION / RESEARCH / EDUCATION

THE VESSEL IS
A PATHWAY.

BRING YOUR PASSION
PROJECTS TO LIFE.

MÀV is being rebuilt to carry people and ideas into the field — supporting research, conservation, education, documentary work and expedition programming in places where the questions are worth pursuing.

Future programs will range from collaborative research and conservation missions to educational expeditions, documentary projects and limited private expeditions.
